How do I know if I am doing well?

Although pupils generally learn to play a musical instrument because they want to and are consequently highly motivated, HWMSS has its own programme of regular assessment managed through a certified scheme of ‘Levels of Attainment’ which is a continuous appraisal programme providing guidance and monitoring of pupils progress. These ‘Levels of Attainment’ are categorised into three easy to follow levels: Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced and are broken down into specific areas of technique and performance practise to aid comprehensive assessment.

Certificates for completing a Level of Attainment are awarded bi-annually to pupils and once an entire level is completed, pupils are awarded a Bronze (Foundation), Silver (Intermediate) or Gold (Advanced) pin badge.

Reports are issued to pupils as follows:

Autumn term - years 6, 9, 11, 12 & 13
Summer term - KS1, years 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 & 10.
